Pride in Plymouth are proud to announce that we have been successful in securing grant funding from Healthwatch Plymouth to survey the LGBTQ communities for their views on the health and social care services in Plymouth.
Plymouth Healthwatch is all about local voices being able to influence the delivery and design of local services. Not just people who use them, but anyone who might need to in future.
Healthwatch will work to help local people get the best out of their local health and social care services. Whether it’s improving them today or helping to shape them for tomorrow.
What impressed the Plymouth Healthwatch panel with our application is the fact that we want to consult with the various strands that make up the LGBTQ community to get their input and advice on the questions we should ask. This approach will help us build a comprehensive dynamic survey with questions that are both relevant to the respondents age, gender identity and or sexual orientation, worded in a way that the respondent can relate to.
The aim of this survey is to attempt to explore the specific issues and challenges which affect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals when accessing medical provision in Plymouth. As the LGBT community is, in fact, four communities brought together to challenge commonly held views and stigmas, it is particularly important for respondents to be able outline their own particular experiences and narratives and then, through collating this material, we are seeking to create a picture of both good practice and the challenges that remain in place for LGBT people when accessing support in the city.
