On Saturday 17th October the successful writers commissioned to write a short play for the ‘In Other Words’ project attended a one day workshop at the Barbican Theatre. This was to introduce them to the process, it also gave them the opportunity to meet each other, and to take part in 1:1 sessions with Josie Sutcliffe, and Natalie McGrath.
Unfortunately due to prior commitments Alan Butler could not attend however each of the writers will meet with Alan to access the Plymouth LGBT Archive material including the Oral Histories that have been recorded. It is this reference material the writers will draw upon to create their play.
Josie Sutcliffe – Director has over thirty years experience as a director, performer and lecturer, working in education, the arts and communication for business in the UK and internationally. In the UK this has included work with Theatre Clwyd, Derby Playhouse, Chichester Festival Theatre, Theatre Royal, Stratford East and Plymouth Theatre Royal.
Natalie McGrath is a playwright, poet and lecturer. She wrote ‘Oxygen’, which toured across the South West region in the Summer 2013 as part of Dreadnought South West’s celebrations of the Great 1913 Suffrage Pilgrimage. Natalie has written many other plays including ‘Rift’; that was produced at the Brewhouse Theatre & Arts Centre, Taunton in 2012, and awarded the Inspire mark, as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
