Heaven on Earth? is a European-wide performance project, inspired by French writer and activist Jean Genet. The UK partner is Plymouth University.
Pride in Plymouth are very excited to be a partner in the Heaven on Earth? with Plymouth University, we are assisting with the promotion and facilitation of the UK events here in Plymouth.
The initial part of a series of events to be held are FREE Creative and Somatic Movement Workshops:
The first of these two hour workshops will take place on Monday 2nd December for LGBTQ people that identify as male.
The second will be on Monday 9th December for LGBTQ people that identify as female.
The 2 hour workshops will introduce a gentle, inclusive and playful approach to working creatively together through movement and gesture. They will draw on techniques from physical theatre, somatic movement practice and dance.
We believe that dance exists through the life of the body and can tell us something about who we are and how we feel.
Participants who would like to take the practice a bit further we are organising further workshops in January.
All of these workshops will be led by Claire Summers (Artistic Director of Exim Dance) and Ruth Way (a dance artist and film-maker who is also Senior Lecturer in Theatre & Performance at Plymouth University).
They are part of a European-wide project called Heaven on Earth? that focuses on issues of equality, respect for diversity and developing an expressive and empathic voice. The main outcome of this artistic project is the production of a visually stunning dance film inspired by the French artist and activist, Jean Genet.
For those workshop participants who want to continue working with us, there will be opportunities to get involved in selected sscenesnd ensemble work as part of the film shoot on location in Plymouth in March and April 2014.
