Plymouth Pride Festival voted ‘Best Event (under 5000 people)
at the City & Waterfront Awards 2017
Pride in Plymouth organised our first Pride in 2012 at Devonport Park utilising the then recently opened new band stand that was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Since then the festival has grown exponentially each year.
In 2011/12 Pride in Plymouth was one of the collaborative partners in the HLF funded ‘Pride in the Past’ project. As part of this project we were able to build a volunteer base, engaging with a wider section of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans communities (LGBT). The HLF were keen that we also engaged with other HLF funded projects in the city making Devonport Park and its new bandstand the perfect venue for the city’s first proper outdoor pride celebration.
in 2014 we moved the event to Plymouth Hoe to facilitate further growth this also enabled us to deliver the city’s first Pride Parade through the City Centre which has also grown in size and is now the city’s largest parade.
We have continued to grow in all areas of PRIDE as has the cost, fortunately sponsorship and support from local businesses and employers has also grown. We are very grateful to our sponsors and supporters for helping us grow the event into an award-winning Pride Festival the City of Plymouth should be proud of.
Contact Us if you would like more information regarding sponsorship opportunities that will help us to further develop the event that has a positive economic benefit for the city, the social impact of our events is immense.
The biggest thank you of all must go to our small army of volunteers that has also grown considerably since 2012. Whether you have been with us from the start assisting with the planning of each event, or if you volunteered to litter pick for a few hours at one event – you have all made a massive difference to our city. We must not forget the acts and talent that give up their time not only to entertain us on the day but to also show their support in celebrating the incredible diversity of the LGBT+ Communities that make the ‘Pride Family’.
Pride in Plymouth is ‘About people and bringing people together’ and we certainly do that with the main summer pride festival and all the events in between.
Thank you ALL!
